Interested families, please note the application timeline and process.

On April 23, 2019, the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education approved Phase II of the Unified Enrollment (UE) project to include Affiliated Charter Schools.  The Board approved the UE project in June 2017 to create a more convenient, equitable, and accessible application process for families.  The updated District Required Language (DRL) modifies Element 8 of the current charter to align with the District’s UE process.  Non-resident attendance boundary families will now apply between October 1 and November 15 at GoTo.LAUSD.Net or submit a paper application found in the Choices Brochure.  If there are more applicants than available space, the school will hold a public, random lottery during the month of February.  Resident attendance boundary families will follow current enrollment procedures and do not need to apply through UE.

General Information for the next school year

Westwood Charter School Lottery, Grades TK - 5

Westwood Charter School is a neighborhood school and an affiliated charter school.

Resident attendance boundary students will continue to go directly to the school's main office to enroll.  Prospective students who reside within the former attendance boundaries shall have first admission preference and thus are deemed exempt from the lottery.

All non-resident students interested in attending an L.A. Unified Affiliated Charter school for the next school year must apply through Unified Enrollment at GoTo.Lausd.Net or submit a paper application found in the Choices Brochure.  If we have space in a grade level, we will select students from a random public lottery.

The lottery will occur on February 21, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. We will hold a public random drawing to establish a ranked list for openings in the fall.  You do not need to be present for the lottery.  We may not know until July or later if we will enroll lottery students in any grades.  Please make alternate plans.

In conducting the lottery, Westwood Charter will provide the following admission preferences in the stated order of priority:

  • LAUSD Students
    • Siblings - prospective students who are siblings of students enrolled in grades TK-4 at Westwood at the time of the lottery and reside within LAUSD boundaries but not within the former attendance boundaries shall have the second admission preference.
    • Other LAUSD Students - All prospective students residing within LAUSD boundaries but not within the former attendance boundaries shall have a third admission preference.
  • California Students
    • Siblings - prospective students who are siblings of students enrolled in grades TK-4 at Westwood at the time of the lottery and reside in the State of California but not within LAUSD boundaries shall have fourth admissions preference.
    • Non-resident students who reside in the State of California but not within the LAUSD boundaries shall have fifth admissions preference.

Students who participate in the lottery but are not selected for admission during the lottery shall be placed on a waitlist in the same priority order as above.  As seats become available, Westwood shall fill the seats from the waitlist.  This waitlist shall be effective until the end of the programmatic year to which it pertains.

Non-resident boundary students who apply for admission after the On-Time application window will be added to the bottom of the waitlist in the order in which their applications are received.  Choices Late Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning February 1st through the fifth week of school.
